DEADLINE: 4 June, by 15:00
The Ministry of University and Research (MUR) has launched the PRIN 2026 Hybrid program, a specific funding line designed to strengthen the Italian basic research system through deep interdisciplinary integration. This initiative promotes scientific projects that foster the “hybridization” of different fields, bridging the gaps between scientific, technological, humanistic, social, and artistic knowledge to address complex challenges that cannot be tackled within a single discipline.
Projects funded under this call require a highly collaborative approach: each project must have a three-year duration and a total budget ranging between 1,200,000 and 1,700,000 euros. Research must be carried out by partnerships composed of a minimum of four and a maximum of six research units from different institutions. A unique and mandatory requirement is the involvement of research areas belonging to the Social Sciences and Humanities (SH) macro-sector, integrated with at least one of the other ERC macro-sectors (Life Sciences or Physical Sciences and Engineering) to ensure genuine interdisciplinary synergy.
The program focuses on five strategic thematic lines aligned with national and European priorities:
-
Quantum Technologies
-
High Performance Computing (HPC)
-
Artificial Intelligence
-
Cybersecurity
-
Innovative Technologies and Pathways in Healthcare
By encouraging cross-sectoral cooperation, the call aims to generate new cognitive paradigms and strengthen the system’s ability to address multifaceted issues through integrated scientific languages and methodologies. Each proposal is led by a Principal Investigator (PI) who coordinates the activities, with 15% of the available resources specifically reserved for projects presented by PIs under the age of 40.
Proposals must be submitted exclusively through the dedicated online platform: https://prin.mur.gov.it/
