Description

For a long time, the cultural and creative work of women has remained poorly recognized compared to that of their male colleagues. In recent decades, studies on women authors’ works have intensified, in tandem with contemporary social movements. Essential tools and studies have also been developed within archival research, particularly within the Tuscan territory. However, much remains to be done, especially concerning the twentieth century.

The objective of SCRIPTA is the enhancement of the archival collections of major 20th-century women authors preserved in Tuscany through:

  1. the creation of digital pathways: an open-access platform and virtual exhibitions to promote widespread access and knowledge of the archival heritage concerning women writers preserved in the region;

  2. research on women’s writing and the implied gender issues through the critical study of archival materials, aiming to produce at least one monograph as an outcome;

  3. synergy among preservation institutions, publishers, and universities, through joint initiatives aimed both at students and a wider audience.

To this end, a partnership has been established involving the most prominent archival institutions in the Region for the study of 20th-century literature: the G.P. Vieusseux Scientific and Literary Cabinet; the State Archives of Florence; the Historical Archives of the Regional Council of Tuscany; and Giunti Editore, the leading Italian publishing group based in Florence.
