Description

The project proposes the study of a selection of paintings from the Pinacoteca of Siena, combining humanistic and scientific knowledge by utilizing technologies in close relation with historical-artistic research. The investigation aims to identify the execution technique, materials used, and alteration processes in gold-ground paintings from the 13th to the 15th century. An interdisciplinary diagnostic protocol will be tested on a selection of these works to create a model for an integrated technical-scientific and historical-artistic catalogue. Through non-invasive chemical-physical analysis campaigns, the metallic leaf applications and their respective finishes will be studied.
The fellowship recipient will carry out the study of the execution technique, materials, and alteration processes on a significant group of works from the Pinacoteca, combining historical-artistic research with material examination and the interpretation of scientific investigation results. They will personally conduct bibliographic and archival research and will actively participate in the examinations and investigations carried out by ISPC-CNR and OPD, based on a defined diagnostic protocol. They will be responsible for drafting the integrated summary data sheets for the analyzed works and developing the research contents for various scientific communication and dissemination contexts. This operational model will be replicable in similar contexts, providing knowledge and skills that are highly applicable to the job market.
