Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) – Call 13

The Innovative Health Initiative (IHI) is a European public-private partnership funding research and innovation in the health sector. The upcoming Call 13 aims to support cross-sectoral projects that translate health research into tangible innovations for patients and healthcare systems, specifically accelerating the development of safe and effective healthcare solutions in Europe.

The call is currently under consideration by the IHI Governing Board, with draft texts published to give researchers advanced time to build consortia. The three main topics identified for the upcoming Call 13 launch are:

  • Topic 1: A network to boost the next wave of European innovations in healthcare.
  • Topic 2: An AI foundation toxicology model and framework to support waiving a second species in drug safety studies.
  • Topic 3: Decode the immuno-science of age-related immune-mediated diseases.

Universities, research centers, companies, SMEs, hospitals, and patient associations are all invited to apply. Legal entities based in EU Member States and countries associated to Horizon Europe (including recent associations like Canada, Switzerland, the UK, and South Korea) are fully eligible for funding. This is expected to be a two-stage call, which requires the creation of cross-sectoral partnerships between public research institutions, healthcare operators, and industrial partners.

The official call launch is expected in Summer 2026, meaning that specific deadlines for submission are currently to be defined. In preparation for the launch, the official IHI Call Days webinars are scheduled between June 24 and June 30, 2026, followed by the National Info Day organized by APRE and Farmindustria on 6 July 2026, in Rome and online.
