Description
The current transformation of democratic politics in Europe is associated with the crisis of representation, which includes declining trust in institutions and political representatives, political individualism, mass-elite imbalance, as well as social and social-media discontent. It is a multidimensional phenomenon of regression of the demos-kratos linkage, known as “representative disconnect.” The EU-funded REDIRECT project will address these challenges and produce sustainable ideas and viable instruments to face the problem of a “democracy in flux.” The project will apply an interdisciplinary and multi-level approach across a wide range of empirical dimensions of representative disconnect. Moreover, it will provide recommendations for institutional reforms and ways to tighten links with citizens.
