Description

The project aims to examine and offer concrete solutions to the main legal problems relating to photographic products and photo archives.
The project will take account of the ongoing digitalization of photo archives, examining and providing operational legal solutions to the complex problems that such procedure entails.
The Partners of the project own and manage photo archives of different kind and dimensions: FAF Toscana (Fondazione Alinari per la fotografia); Fondazione di Studi di Storia dell’Arte Roberto
Longhi; Gallerie degli Uffizi; Fondazione Centro di Documentazione Ebraica Contemporanea (CDEC); Siena Art Institute; TerraProject Photographers.

The Partners have originally provided legal topics and issues to examine.

By others: copyright; classification and reproducibility of images; creative value of photo; conservation and enhancement of photo archives; digitalization of photo archives and their legal status; legal regime
of image-related metadata (infofiles, metadata, etc.); concession fees; legal discipline relating to the use of photographic images for the training of Artificial Intelligences.
The Project will take place according to the following steps:

a) verification of the material held by Partners and its management;

b) legal classification of photographic products and archives;

c) identification, in agreement with the Partners, of the legal issues to be examined, with particular regards to proceduralization and legal standardization of management and enhancement
practices;

d) synthesis of a general framework on photographic products and photo archives;

e) proposal on procedures and standards to be adopted;

f) dissemination of the results.
