Description
The rise of 5G non-terrestrial networks (5G-NTN), particularly satellite networks, is poised to handle a multitude of applications and serve numerous users. To ensure the efficient deployment of European governmental satellite services, there is a need for the end-to-end adaptation of 5G-NTN to meet EU-GOVSATCOM requirements. In this context, the EU-funded 5G-GOVSATCOM project aims to develop and test critical enabling technologies in real-world user environments. The overarching objective is to seamlessly integrate 5G-NTN into the EU-GOVSATCOM framework. Specifically, 5G-GOVSATCOM will focus on adapting radio access procedures for mobile terminals within the exclusive governmental X-band, facilitating seamless handover between terrestrial networks and NTN through a smart gateway. The project will validate its outcomes through experimental testing, with a particular focus on ubiquitous telemedicine in maritime areas.
