Netval-UniGe Workshop: “Science and Dual-Use: Interpretive Clarifications for the Protection of Research”

Registration is now open for the Netval-University of Genoa Workshop titled “Science and Dual-Use: Interpretive Clarifications for the Protection of Research“.
The event will take place on October 23rd and 24th at the Salone Nobile, Villa Cambiaso, Polytechnic School, in Genoa, in synergy with the University of Genoa’s Centre for Security, Risk and Vulnerability.
The workshop will address the critical global Dual-Use regulation, a framework designed to control the uncontrolled export of sensitive goods and technologies originating in research laboratories. The event focuses specifically on the increasing challenge where products developed for purely civilian purposes—across fields like biomedical science, telecommunications, chemistry, and IT—are vulnerable to being misappropriated for harmful, uncontrolled applications. When clarity on the actual end-users and export purposes is lacking, this situation poses a significant risk to human safety and security, placing severe legal responsibility on researchers who are, unfortunately, often entirely unaware of this complex regulatory challenge.
