The Italian Ministry of University and Research (MUR) has announced the call for research project proposals under the National Antarctic Research Program (PNRA) 2025. The initiative aims to advance scientific knowledge of the Antarctic continent and to better understand the interactions between the cryosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere.

The call is divided into two main lines of intervention:

  • Line A: Research projects to be conducted at the “Mario Zucchelli” Station and other Antarctic bases.

  • Line B: Research projects to be carried out on fixed or mobile platforms of other countries.

Research proposals must primarily address the following scientific themes:

  • Earth/Ice/Climate Interactions; Antarctic Ocean, Lithosphere, and Atmosphere;

  • Life in Antarctica: Evolution, adaptation, biodiversity, and biocenosis;

  • Astronomy, astrophysics, and space weather;

  • Anthropogenic impact and environmental contamination;

  • Biomedicine and psychology;

  • Technology in Antarctica.

Applications are open to state and non-state Universities and Public Research Bodies supervised by the MUR. Proposals can be submitted by single entities or through partnerships. Each researcher may participate in a maximum of two proposals, serving as Principal Investigator (PI) or Head of an Operating Unit (UO) in only one of them.

Applications must be submitted exclusively online through the MUR GEA platform. To consult the full text of the call and download the required templates, please visit the official page: PNRA 2025 Call – GEA Portal
