Materials Day – Materials in European R&I

July 16 @ 11:00 - 16:30

APRE, in collaboration with the Innovative Advanced Materials Initiative (IAM-I) and Access2EIC (the European network of EIC National Contact Points), is organizing the event “Materials Day: Materials in European R&I” on July 16. The event will take place both in person in Rome – Roma Tre University and online. This day is dedicated to the Italian research and innovation community to explore the strategic role of materials in European policies and future funding opportunities.

The morning plenary session (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM) will focus on building a common reference framework regarding the role of materials—with a particular emphasis on advanced materials—within the context of European policies. The plenary also offers an opportunity for shared reflection with the national and regional ecosystem, aiming to discuss the positioning of Italian stakeholders in the European landscape, identify investment priorities and emerging strategic trajectories, and open a dialogue on the potential evolution of the funding framework for the 2028-2034 period.

In the afternoon, participants can choose between two parallel side events (2:00 PM – 4:30 PM) dedicated to deeper analysis and community interaction:

  • An IAM Italy workshop, structured as a discussion forum among key actors of the national ecosystem (institutions, research, industry) to address emerging trajectories and sector needs, gather input, and contribute to defining future strategic priorities.

  • An in-depth session dedicated to EIC Pathfinder Challenges in the field of materials, focusing on challenge goals and design, alignment with European priorities on advanced materials, and key elements for successful proposal positioning.

Registration is required to attend the event, both in person and online. Please make sure to register by July 14, 2026.
