Netval (Network per la Valorizzazione della Ricerca) is hosting an online session titled “WE-WE 2026: Mind the gap! Regole e accorgimenti per la gestione della proprietà intellettuale nelle collaborazioni tra enti di ricerca e imprese” as part of its Wednesday Webinar series, on 14 Octber 2026, from 14:00 to 17:00.

Collaborations between universities, public research organizations, and businesses represent a fundamental tool for fostering knowledge transfer and research valorisation. However, these partnerships frequently raise complex intellectual property issues, requiring a careful balance between the public mission of academic research and the commercial interests of companies.

This webinar provides an overview of the key legal and operational challenges that arise when managing IP rights in public-private partnerships. Particular attention will be given to the implications of State Aid regulations and the need to ensure collaboration frameworks that comply with European legal standards.

The session will also place strong emphasis on managing the co-ownership of research results, examining its advantages, limitations, and practical drawbacks, while presenting contractual solutions designed to balance knowledge dissemination with economic exploitation. Through the analysis of real-world case studies and negotiation scenarios, speakers Alessandra Baccigotti (University of Bologna) and Martina Cavaliere (University of Teramo) will offer actionable guidance to prevent disputes, reduce legal uncertainty, and build effective IP strategies across the entire project lifecycle.
