Research Development Plan (RDP) 2023 aims to strengthen research activity at Siena University through five types of funding with five different goals.
F- DIP, a fund to support research policies formulated by the Departments and which takes into account and follows the annual planning, also providing the basic tools for research
F-RUNNERS UP, a fund to promote competitive design by rewarding ‘runner-up’ Unisi lecturers in national and international competitive calls
F-NEW FRONTIERS, a fund to support the “frontier” research projects by young Unisi researchers
F-SEAL, a fund for the internationalization of research, assigned to young researchers from all backgrounds who have been awarded the ‘Seal of Excellence’ under the EU’s Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions
F-OPEN ACCESS: a fund to increase the dissemination of scientific research by promoting open access publications
Basically,
- F-DIP is the funding formula that distributes funds to the university’s 14 departments according to their size, the number of teaching staff and the quantity and quality of the research produced, as measured in the latest round of Evaluation of Research Quality – VQR (2015-2019). Budget: 600,000 Euros
- F-RUNNERS UP is the fund set up for the first time in PSR 2023 with the aim of rewarding the efforts of those who participated in national and international projects and earned good recognition but did not receive the expected funding. In particular, the excellent results must have been achieved within the framework of ERC calls (starting, consolidator, advanced and synergy), PRIN 2022, PRIN 2022 PNRR or FIS 2022.
Budget: 250,000 Euros
- F-NEW FRONTIERS is the funding formula for young Unisi researchers who submit high-risk ‘frontier’ projects and introduce significant innovation in the various fields of research. Resources are divided among the three ERC fields (SH – Social Sciences and Humanities, LS – Life Sciences, PE – Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Information and Communication, Engineering, Earth and Universe Sciences).
Budget: 270,000 Euros
- F-SEAL intends to fund, through a public selection procedure, three 18-month research fellowships. Those who have been awarded a ‘Seal of Excellence’ under the European Union’s Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions may apply. There is one grant for each of the three ERC fields (SH – Social Sciences and Humanities, LS – Life Sciences, PE – Mathematics, Physical Sciences, Information and Communication, Engineering, Earth and Planetary Sciences).
budget: 240,000 Euros
- F-OPEN ACCESS is the fund that encourages and supports the open access publication of monographs, collections, conference proceedings and journal articles. This budget is also used to promote the publication of journals or series by the Siena University Press, USiena Press. All members of the Unisi scientific community are eligible for funding. Lecturers and post-doctoral fellows can apply for the contribution directly, whereas students and graduates of postgraduate schools, as well as doctoral research students and graduates, can do so via the former.
Budget: 100,000 Euros
