Description
This project is the result of a collaboration between the National Association of Hemodialysis Patients (ANED), Siena University Hospital, and the University of Siena. The synergy among these entities has led to a joint initiative aimed at developing stress management strategies capable of improving the quality of life and reducing the risk of developing anxious-depressive symptoms in patients affected by this disease, emphasizing the significance of interdisciplinary cooperation in addressing challenges in the field of anemia and chronic kidney disease (CKD). Chronic kidney disease, especially when associated with anemia, can have disabling effects on the quality of life of patients who suffer from it. It is crucial to ensure that patients with chronic kidney disease and associated anemia, as well as their family members – who play a significant role in care, especially in the early stages of the disease – have access to suitable psychological support to process the trauma of the disease, non-acceptance of the problem, negative emotional experiences such as anger and helplessness, and to experience empathy and social support. Additionally, it is important to acquire proper literacy about the disease and the therapeutic process in its various phases. This project aims to explore the need of patient with anemia due to CKD, provide a self-help tool and evaluate a group psychological pathway.
