New online tools from European Patent Office for easy access to commercial and technical information on cancer-related innovation

The European Patent Office (EPO) has launched a new free online platform called “Technologies combatting cancer” developed in cooperation with 10 national patent offices in Europe.

The tool presents over 130 datasets on four major topics: prevention and early detection, diagnosis, treatment, wellness and follow-up care. This is the fourth platform of its kind developed by the EPO, following those on coronavirus, clean energy technologies and firefighting.
Based on this data, the EPO published a study showing that Italy is among the top European countries for innovation in the fight against cancer, measured in terms of number of international patent families.
To aid the development and commercialisation of new cancer technologies, the EPO is updating its free “Deep Tech Finder” tool that maps almost 8,000 European start-ups with patent applications.
The tool now includes filters for 17 different cancer-related technologies from 1340 start-ups ready for investment in this field. This helps investors and potential partners find European start-ups with valuable new oncology technologies in the deep tech sector.
