Breakthrough T1D  Foundation – “DISCO-T1D” – Disentangling circulating non-coding RNAs complexity by tracking their expression and origin in Type 1 Diabetes

Project data

Funding Entity: European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes (EFSD)

Call: BREAKTHROUGH T1D

Coordinator: Università di Siena (Italy)

UNISI Principal Investigator: Prof. Guido Sebastiani

Department: Department of Medical, Surgical and Neuroscience Sciences (DSMCN)

Start date: 1 March 2025

End date: 1 March 2030

Description

The goal of this project is to enhance the technology used to detect and measure non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs) in blood, which will help us to find new biomarkers for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). By analyzing blood samples from individuals involved in the INNODIA consortium project, we hope to discover novel biomarkers that can predict, monitor, and tailor treatments specically for T1D.

Ultimately, we also aim to trace these ncRNAs back to their originating cells. This could greatly improve our understanding and management of the disease.
