Many different actors at Unisi contribute to the setting of the Training Offer for Researchers: the result is a broad and calibrated proposal of topics ranging from soft skills to technical abilities or mandatory requirements to perform research.

Training Framework:

Target:
The term Researcher is used by the European Commission in the widest possible sense and includes all researchers, from PhD students to Full Professors. Here are the four identified profiles, as reported also in our HRS4R Action Plan :
R1 First Stage Researcher (up to the point of PhD)
R2 Recognised Researcher (PhD holders or equivalent who are not yet fully independent)
R3 Established Researcher (researchers who have developed a level of independence)
R4 Leading Researcher (researchers leading their research area or field)

USiena Research – Training on European project planning and management
The Research and Grants Management University of Siena, also in collaboration with other institutions/organizations, organizes training courses open to professors, researchers, doctoral students, and staff of the offices on European planning.

APRE COURSES 2025
New for the year 2025 is the calendar of 10 training courses organised by APRE – Agency for the Promotion of European Research – in cooperation with the Tuscan universities that are members of the network (University of Siena, University of Pisa, University of Florence, Scuola Normale Superiore and Scuola Superiore S.Anna). The activities are dedicated to researchers and teaching and technical-administrative staff of the member institutions. Among these, two are organised together with the Research and Technology Transfer Division of the University of Siena.

USIENA Soft&Digital Skills
The planning of the transversal lessons concerning the soft skills (transversal competencies), involves in-depth studies on topics not covered in the individual doctorates, which are mandatory in the context of European higher education, to facilitate the application, development, and transfer of the scientific knowledge of the specific course of study, to be functional both for research activity and for entering the world of work.

APRE for UniSi
As parte of the services offered to its members, each year APRE organizes one or two courses on the European research funding program Horizon Europe for our University.

SANTA CHIARA LAB – Teaching e-Learning Center ed il Faculty Community of Learning
The Santa Chiara Lab aggregates and promotes university activities functional to the development and enhancement of transversal skills for students, researchers and teachers, which are decisive both for entering the world of work and for professional development, as well as for acquiring awareness of one’s role as citizens in an ever-changing global world.
“Start Teaching@USiena” project organized within the Polo Didattico di Arezzo of the University of Siena, aimed at new university teachers, to whom the new technologies, platforms and apps available for teaching innovation are illustrated.

UNISI OPBA – Training course on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes
In the framework of mandatory specialized training for those participating in a research project involving animal experimentation, our University, in agreement with other Italian entities, cyclically offers its researchers – from R1 doctoral students to R4 professors – a “training course on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes”.
The course will consist of an online theoretical part (on Teams platform) and of a laboratory practice.
